Our Mission
The mission of HOSA is to empower HOSA-Future Health Professionals to become leaders in the global health community through education, collaboration, and experience. The purpose of HOSA-Future Health Professionals is to develop leadership and technical HOSA skill competencies through a program of motivation, awareness and recognition, which is an integral part of the Health Science Education instructional program.
Our Goals
HOSA allows students the real-life experience to apply the personal, workplace, and technical skills it takes to be successful in the workplace. HOSA is an all-encompassing co-curricular program focusing on: integrity, work ethic, professionalism, responsibility, self-motivation, adaptability/flexibility, communication, teamwork, leadership, planning/organization skills, multicultural awareness, decision making, technology, service orientation, in addition to job-specific skills.

HOSA History
HOSA was first formed in November 1975 by six charter states during a meeting in Cherry Hill, NJ. It was officially established at a Constitutional Convention held in Arlington, Texas, in November 1976. This event brought together state supervisors, advisors, teachers and over 300 student leaders to formalize its structure and goals. Its focus was on supporting programs in nursing, dental, medical and related health occupations, along with organized pre-technical programs in health careers approved by the State Department of Education. To date, there are now more than 300,000 student members in the pipeline to become Future Health Professionals.

SLC
The State Leadership Conference (SLC) is the pinnacle event of the HOSA year—where future health professionals from across the state gather to showcase their knowledge, skills, and passion for healthcare. More than just a competition, SLC is a high-energy, hands-on experience that inspires, connects, and celebrates the next generation of healthcare leaders.
With a wide range of competitive events—from Biomedical Debate and EMT to Medical Innovation and Health Career Photography—members put their classroom learning into action and gain real-world experience under pressure. The atmosphere is electric as students cheer each other on, form new friendships, and represent their schools with pride.
SLC also recognizes excellence, spotlighting top-performing students who earn medals and a chance to advance to the International Leadership Conference (ILC). Beyond the competitions, the conference features inspiring guest speakers, engaging workshops, and unforgettable moments that energize members to keep striving toward their goals.
At its core, SLC captures what HOSA is all about: empowering students through education, collaboration, and experience to become confident, compassionate leaders in the global health community.
